Did You Know? Northridge orginal name.

NorthridgeNorthridge Today, Zelzah Yesterday

Did you know that the area know as Northridge today was previously know as Zelzah. In the early 1900’s the community of Zelzah had a train Depot Station along the Southern Pacific Railroad, a business district, and a one room school house.

The Zelzah Depot was at the southeast corner of Parthenia St and Reseda Blvd along the railroad tracks. It was torn down in 1961.

The business district in 1925 span from Parthenia to Nordhoff and encompassed several blocks east and west from there.

The one-room school house was located at Canby Ave and Gresham and had one teacher in 1910 but, by 1914   Zelzah Grammar School was at the southeast corner of Reseda Blvd and Nordhoff St.

In 1929 the area was renamed North Los Angeles, but confusion ensued and in 1938 became Northridge. Imagine “CSUN” as “CSUZ”.
